From Bihar to Wipro: The Beginning

A bright touch of promise graces the town of Bihar, where they are known to produce some of the brightest minds who ultimately carry them to the nation through civil services. Shweta’s story started like many others deep desire to serve the country. Nevertheless, her path was not always easy.
In the beginning, Shweta worked at Wipro, an extremely well-known multinational, spending 9 hours a day as their employee. Like many, she had a family to manage, thus handling the office commitments as well as personal commitments. How could somebody at work full-time muster the time and energy to fight for one of the toughest exams in India? This possibility was by Shweta.
The only thing that would have abated Shweta’s passion for a career in civil services would be giving it up entirely for her work, an outcome that she resolved would never happen. Certainly, she promised herself that her job would not stop her from realising her dreams of being an IAS officer, for, as the saying goes, “where there is a will, there is a way,” and Shweta made her way, step by step.

The Struggles: Time Management and Sacrifices

Like so many people in such a situation, the journey was not smooth for Shweta. Every moment in a day needed to be planned. This was primarily because Shweta worked full-time but prepared for the UPSC exams at the same time. The first thing that Shweta would have to learn was time use at its best.
Managing a full-time job with no long hours of coaching training or indeed study time all by herself is not an easy thing to do. That is where her amazing ability at time management came into effect. Her mornings and evenings, for example, were utilized well; she would wake up early in the morning, usually at 5 AM, then would do some study before heading to the office and then after a long day of work would continue to devote time to studies until very late.
Discipline, perseverance, and, most importantly, the ability to stay focused on her goals made this schedule so intense. Distraction was perhaps one of the greatest challenges faced by Shweta while preparing. Otherwise, in this age of social media, one could very easily lose track of time and spend precious hours just scrolling through feeds or chatting with friends. Shweta was, however, aware of the importance of avoiding all distractions.
She completely cut herself off from social media in an audacious step toward prioritizing her goal. Eventually, she even went ahead to eliminate the use of her smartphone to fit in the bill of avoidance of any pay-off distractions. That proved to be one of the cornerstones in striving for the focus necessary in her studies.
To top it up, Shweta had even to do more than that; sacrifices. Like most aspirants, she didn’t have a social life; weekends went by without days off, and leisure hours were non-existent as she concentrated entirely on her UPSC preparation. Temporary sacrifices would yield permanent benefits; she knew that. Hence the difference in achieving success not only in the UPSC exam but also in her previous attempt in the Bihar Public Service Commission exam.

Achievements from PCS to UPSC

Shweta made her efforts compensation when she passed the BPSC examination in 2020 by acquiring a high rank of 65 in the examination. This became a most important achievement in her journey to IAS as it got her that much closer to getting an IAS posting. This feat also truly mirrored the quality of resilience and under-pressure performance of Shweta, because she was juggling her job while preparing for these exams.
But Shweta was not going to stop there. In 2021, she appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Exam and aced it with an impressive All India Rank 356. This feat indeed speaks of years of consistent hard work and the presence of mind to focus on the task at hand.
Shweta Bharti’s success in the UPSC examination was one of the most significant landmarks in her life. Now, she is serving as Assistant Collector in Bihar and works for the development of the state and its people. Her life has now become an idol for those preparing for civil services, specifically those in the challenge of preparing for UPSC while managing their work and personal lives.
